The Research Triangle Park’s wayfinding system is being updated this year. The current signage consists of large maroon signs at the major intersections within RTP. These signs require a lot of maintenance and the lettering on the signs is difficult to read after dark (currently non-reflective).
RTP has contracted with Cloud Gehshan Associates from Philadelphia for the project. Cloud Gehshan is working with a sign committee formed specifically for the project which has representatives from the Research Triangle Foundation Board, Research Triangle Park staff, the RTP Board of Design, the RTP Owners & Tenants Association and NC DOT. The new signs will be lower to the ground than the current signs and will be angled so they are not perpendicular to the road and this will provide greater visibility. The letters will be taller and reflective and the signs will be made from aluminum. The new signage should be installed by the end of 2011. Additionally, new address markers are being placed at Park companies to replace the existing granite markers.
